Market Madness!

Today we were really pleased to actually start some training. We were expecting young leaders to come   because they had asked the day before for us to provide them with some leadership training. However, as is the nature of GOLD, some Guides also turned up. We quickly adapted our session plans and began...

We started with some fun games including "Don't sit next to Fred". This is a new team favourite because it involves some friendly competition and a lot of laughter :D Then we moved onto introducing ourselves. We have a very cool UK tea towel map which we stuck on the wall and put string and post it notes on it to describe what we do in Guiding in the UK. We also talked about our jobs etc. This encouraged the girls to tell us a bit about themselves and what they do in Guiding and we did a similar activity with a map of Georgetown.

We then went on to draw qualities of a good leader on large pieces of flip chart paper, as well as discuss how to successfully plan and adapt Guide sessions. These discussions helped the girls in the next activity; we gave groups a random object (suncream, a toy elephant, a sunhat) and some difficult scenarios and let them plan their own session. The responses were really good and we are very impressed at their creativity. All of this was interspersed with fun energisers. The girls even taught us some new games- "My lost hat" was a firm favourite although we decided that it was almost impossible to win!

Lunch time arrived all to quickly and we sat down to enjoy our spicy chicken curry and random pink drink.

After lunch we sat down with the Guyana GOLD team and planned sessions for the rest of the week. It is going to be very busy but we are looking forward to it. We will be looking at badge programmes with the Guides tomorrow morning and starting an environmental project in the afternoon.

After we had finished Erin took us to the main market in Georgetown. This was quite experience; there were lots of sights and smells which are completely new to us! We managed to get a lot of important things done, including changing some money, visiting the bank so we can pay Mrs P and booking tickets so we can go to Kaieteur Falls on Sunday- we are really really looking forward to this :D

Now we are sitting Plantain chips in Mrs Ps garden whilst trying not to itch our many many mosquito bites. Stir fry for tea and then more planning.
