Barbados Ahoy!- Leg 1 of a long journey.

Deborah is ready for off!
Where do I begin!! Team GOLD Guyana has had a very busy two days of travelling and we are now sat in beautiful Barbados :D

Our great big GOLDen adventure started yesterday as we travelled to Amelia's house- which is conveniently near Gatwick Airport. Some of the team had done a full days work before they could jump on a train and start the journey, others of us had long journeys, but it was really lovely to all meet up and get super excited about our project together.

Over lots of cups of tea we discussed resources (Bec has done a truly incredible job and made lots of spiral bound packs of training resources for us all), how large (and heavy) all of our bags were and what the next couple of days had in store for us.

After a fairly good nigh't sleep we had a yummy cooked breakfast courtesy of Amelia's Dad (thank you!) before checking that we all had our passports for the millionth time and setting off for the airport. Checking in etc. went smoothly and before we knew it we were on a plane, flying above the Atlantic, bound for Barbados.

Airport Smiles :D
Eight and a half hours later and some fairly tasty plane food we landed in Barbados, to a welcome summer drizzle. We were shown the sights on our taxi journey to the hotel (which by the way is called the PIRATE INN- how exciting!!) by a very friendly driver who has promised to come and pick us up tomorrow morning and take us back to the airport. He was very keen on showing where the great Caribbean nightlife could be found!

We then went off to the beach and enjoyed a very refreshing dip in the sea. We have been warned that this is not what to expect to Guyana, but it was really lovely to relax as a team and get to know each other a little better.

Now we are sitting by the pool at our hotel chatting. We are going to order some food and then I think its bed!

We will be heading off to Guyana tomorrow morning and will see what happens next.
